Social Anxiety

Social Anxiety

Social anxiety is anxiety and concerns about being judged negatively in social situations. Some people with extreme social anxiety may avoid social situations all together.   This anxiety can impact employment, and one’s social life.

People who are socially anxious and have perfectionistic tendencies may also be prone to thinking that others have unrealistically high expectations. They may fear rejection if they do not live up to these perceived expectations.

When working with individuals with social anxiety I use an integrated approach. I help people understand the dynamics of their social anxiety as well help them utilize CBT techniques such as mindfulness, cognitive restricting and exposure techniques.
